INSIGHTS: GAINING MOMENTUM

Remember me mention in my first blog about how the journey was going to be a ride in a Ferris Wheel? Well, it seems it’s more of a ride in a Fire Ball (yeah I researched a bit, we don’t have one in Nepal; basically it’s the next kind of the Ferris Wheel) where we are gaining elevation in every pass, gaining enough momentum to make it completely around the loop, preparing ourselves for the grand hang-time(the feeling of almost falling out of our seats). The riders are pretty amazing too, some seem unbothered by the gain in momentum, some have acquired motion-sickness, some are out of sight, probably disappeared into the ring of fire and some are desperately waiting for the 360 turn, shouting at the top of their lungs with their heart in their mouth.

Two months of being a part of this movement has made us realise that each one of us, intentionally or unintentionally have the power of creating an impact in other’s lives. One such incident was when we were approached by a participant from Biratnagar, who had been following the Hult Prize Nepal Community on social media. He reached out to us for participation because he didn’t have Hult back there in his college. His eagerness and willingness to participate in the global campaign was really pellucid. This is the power Hult Prize holds; the ability to create an impact of such magnitude, connecting people from across the nation.

With the very aim of creating an empathic view-point towards our corporate world, creating an avenue of seeing our businesses, and learning from those who have walked the path, we introduced our first series of talk sessions: Tuesday Talks. Every week we invite business owners and entrepreneurs, who have influenced our lives with their services and products, to share their stories, their struggle and provide workshops on their fields of expertise. This week on Tuesday Talks, we invited Mr. Anjani Phuyal as our speaker.Global CTO of Genese Solution, and CEO of Genese Cloud Academy, he was truly an inspiration to all the participants. He shared the untold stories behind Genese, stories of failure and success; stories that are usually not heard of. His story has helped us realize the potential of every idea and inspired us to take bold steps, to bring impact in the community we live in.

Immediately after the talk session, we had a meeting with the volunteers and mentors. We divided ourselves into different breakout rooms, where we could talk individually with all the volunteers. We talked about how their volunteering experience had been so far and the skills they had acquired on the way in this constant process of growing together, learning and having fun.

This week on Thursday Tales, we shared the story from Team Stoics, the 2018 Hult Prize On-Campus Finalists and Top 6 in The Regionals. Their idea sprung from a wild plant; a plant one can find in the Himalayas of Nepal. They were fully aware of the value of the plant, which was found in abundance back in their hometown. So they developed an idea to make it economically viable, and through Hult they were able to build a concrete business plan. Now they are working on their project STOICS- The Hopes of The Himalayas, which is all set to hit the national market. Wondering what this magical plant was? Check this link to find out.

Everything has escalated real quick, especially keeping our academics and ECAs in a balance has been a real struggle. Starting from speed to acquiring velocity, we are gradually gaining acceleration to produce a jerk to finally end with a snap(a really bad Physics pun but fits in perfectly). As I write about gaining velocity and acceleration, there’s this voice at the back of my head which has constantly been reminding me that I am probably going to fail my Applied Mechanics test today. Yeah, but I’m a global changemaker, on my way to create an impact in the world. A small price to pay for the greater good of humanity.

P.S. If you haven’t registered for the On-Campus program, follow this link and get your team registered. bit.ly/hp_register. Think Big, your tests don’t matter, you are committing yourself for the greater good.

See you next week!

Edit Note From Content Guru : Hult Prize doesn’t condone failing in tests. Changing your grade is first step to changing the world. Do fill the form though, it’s best to create your company rather than get good grades and hope you get hired with the added benefits of changing the world
